  • 4 rashers smoked streaky bacon

  • 4 medium onions

  • 4 cloves garlic

  • 4 carrots

  • 4 sticks celery

  • olive oil

  • 3 tsp dried oregano

  • 750g good quality minced beef

  • 4 x 400g chopped tomatoes

  • 2 tbsp tomato puree

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 3 beef stock cubes

  • 4-5 dashes Worcestershire sauce

  • salt and pepper




1. Heat oil in pan and brown the mince. Remove from pan and set aside.


2. Add a little oil to the pan and add finely sliced bacon and oregano. Cook until bacon is slightly golden.


3. Add onion, garlic, carrots, and celery.


4. Cook for about 5 mins stirring regularly or until softened and lightly coloured.Add tomatoes, oregano, tomato puree, sugar, stock cubes and Worcestershire sauce and simmer for 20 mins.


5. Blend into a sauce if desired more appealing to children when vegetables are not visible.


6. Add mince back into the pan and simmer for 1 hour.
