Good Neighbour Project

Introducing Foodshare's Good Neighbour project! We understand the importance of community and companionship, especially for those who are in need of some food support and social interaction.

We used to have a regular visitor at the foodbank, an elderly lady who would call in every Saturday morning for a cup of tea and a chat. Her visits inspired us to reach out to others who are experiencing loneliness and food insecurity.

We believe that the answer lies with good neighbours, individuals within communities who are already looking out for others and offering their helping hand. That's why we launched the Good Neighbour project on the Evenlode estate, inviting elderly residents to visit the food bank for a 'private shop' with the assistance of our compassionate volunteers.

We provide food support and companionship during our visits, spending an hour over refreshments and conversation before taking them home. Our guests appreciate the company, and our volunteers find it equally rewarding.

Now we're seeking to expand the Good Neighbour project to other localities, collaborating with more good neighbours to reach more people in need of food and friendship. If you're interested in becoming a Good Neighbour, contact us at Foodshare to learn more about how you can make a difference in your community.

Together, we can create a stronger, more connected community and ensure that no one is left to face hunger and isolation alone.
